Year-end message from Ronel Williams, FISA Chairperson

It’s fair to say that 2017 has been a difficult year on many fronts. We’ve had to deal with political turmoil, a continuing risk of a ratings downgrade, the national rugby team suffering record losses against New Zealand and Ireland, and the worst drought South Africa has experienced in 23 years.

The fiduciary industry has also not been spared – our members have been kept busy with the introduction of section 7C of the Income Tax Act, more and more clients taking money offshore and needing estate planning, dealing with increased regulation when administering deceased estates and the proposed report on wealth taxes. Many members also chose to write the last stand-alone FPSA® examinations in September and November.

On behalf of the FISA Council I would like to thank you for your continued support during the year. To those of you taking a break, enjoy and travel safely. My wish is that you have a peaceful, joyous break to recharge your batteries and the opportunity to spend time with your loved ones.

Season’s greetings.
