The chairperson of FISA, Mr Chris Murphy, expressed his shock and dismay about the murder of the Johannesburg insolvency attorney, Mr Bouwer van Niekerk.
Mr Murphy said that it is a sad day when a thorough and ethical professional is gunned down for just doing his job, in what is apparently a case where his professionalism stood in the way of criminal activity. As was reported in the media Mr Van Niekerk received death threats connected to work he did in connection with an alleged Ponzi scheme. The incident apparently led to another practitioner resigning from this case. FISA extends its condolences to the family of Mr Van Niekerk, and to The South African Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners Association NPC (SARIPA), the professional organisation to which he belonged.
