2019 Year-end message from FISA Chairperson, Dr Eben Nel

We are not only approaching the end of another year, but also the end of a decade. Twenty years ago, Y2K was on everyone’s mind, which proved to be not nearly as exciting as expected, and ten years ago, we awaited the largest sporting event in our history. After a decade of more lows than highs in the political arena and very disappointing financial results, I am sure everyone wants to believe that 2020 can only be better. As fiduciary practitioners, we often have the opportunity to influence the way our clients experience the world we live in. When they are faced with a major life-crisis, we have the choice to be the voices of hope and optimism. Irrespective of what the new decade offers, we all have the opportunity to continue to make a difference. The role of our Institute is to support and empower every practitioner in his or her endeavour to deliver an excellent service to their clients. We are proud of the commitment by every member to act at all times ethically, professionally and responsibly, while subscribing to the principles of integrity and diligence.

I want to thank the members of the Regional Committees and Council for their unselfish contributions to the Institute during the past year. Council values the input from every member who contributed during the last year as well as his or her time and resources. Our members remain our biggest asset and it is, also in terms of our Constitution, the Institute’s priority to promote the fiduciary profession and the interests of our members in fulfilling their professional aspirations.

I wish all our members a blessed and peaceful festive season and well-deserved time of rest. May 2020 be a wonderful year during which you fulfil your fiduciary duties, serve your clients with excellence, and achieve your personal goals in life.
