FISA also received the following communication from SARS about safeguarding of eFiling profiles:

Dear Valued Stakeholders

As we approach Filing Season, we urge you to remain vigilant and cautious to protect yourselves and the taxpayers you assist from potential eFiling-profile hacking and scams.

This is how you can do it –

To protect your tax information, update your eFiling security contact details regularly. SARS uses one-time pins (OTPs) as an added layer of security to safeguard your information. Updating your security contact details will ensure that you can receive OTPs.

How can you update your security contact details on eFiling and the SARS MobiApp:

eFiling

  1. Log in and go to My Profile then select Profile and Preference Setup.
  2. Under Security Contact Details, you can update your email address and cell phone number. Remember to click Update and Save.
  3. Now select your preferred method to receive OTPs from SARS. You will receive an OTP.
  4. Enter the last six digits of the OTP and click Submit.

SARS MobiApp

1.            Open the SARS MobiApp on your mobile device.

2.            Select Profile Management and select the information you want to update.

3.            Click Update & Save once you have entered the updated information.

4.            Remember to enter the OTP from SARS.

Stay alert and informed to prevent falling victim to scams. This will ensure a secure Filing Season for you and your clients.
