Election of councillors – call for nominations

Vacancies on the FISA Council must be filled by elections conducted at least 21 days prior to the 2025 FISA annual general meeting (AGM). The AGM is planned for 10 April 2025 and will be held in Cape Town. The formal notice of the AGM will be dispatched at a later date.

Nationally Elected Councillors

The three-year term of office as a nationally elected councillor of the current FISA chairperson, Dr Eben Nel, expires at the 2025 AGM. He is automatically eligible for re-election and is deemed to be nominated for the position unless he notifies the CEO in writing that he does not wish to stand for re-election (see clause 15.2 of the FISA Constitution (the constitution). Any two members of FISA (excluding candidate members) may nominate any other member for this position, with the permission of the member so to be nominated. This notice serves as a call for nominations for this position (see clause 15.3 of the constitution). Nominations close on 18 February 2025.

Current FISA nationally elected councillor, Mr Aaron Roup, has notified Council of his resignation as councillor with effect from the 2025 AGM. A vacancy therefore exists for the remaining two years of the three-year term to which he was re-elected in 2024. Any two members of FISA (excluding candidate members) may nominate any other member for this position, with the permission of the member so to be nominated. This notice serves as a call for nominations for this position (see clause 15.3 of the constitution). Nominations close on 18 February 2025.

Regional Councillors

The terms of office of Ms Penny du Plessis (Gauteng), Ms Rumana Mahomed (KwaZulu-Natal), and Mr Rynoe Smith (Central) expire at the AGM, and elections must therefore be held in these regions to elect new regional committees. The elections take place at an election meeting, which can be held on the same date as and immediately following a regional meeting (par 6.2 of the Regulations for Regional Committees (the regulations). Nominations are not called for beforehand but are taken from the floor at these meetings. The person elected as regional chairperson at such election meeting joins Council as a regional councillor. Under the provisions of the regulations, nominations for members to serve on these regional committees will only be accepted at the relevant meeting. Invitations to these election meetings, as well as the formal notices as required by the regulations, are communicated via the FISA Focus Weekly and the invitation emails to members to register for these regional meetings.
