Spam email sent to FISA members recently

An e-mail from More2Life (Luvuyiso Mxaku) was apparently sent to all FISA Members over the last day or two. This is SPAM.

FISA undertakes to all members never to hand out a FISA member contact list to any party who is not part of the FISA Council, other governance structures or administration. FISA will also not bombard members with e-mails. For this reason e-mails to members are limited to the one FISA Focus Weekly newsletter per week, and Cvent invitation e-mails to FISA events.

We suspect that More2Life obtained the e-mail addresses by copying and pasting them one-by-one or in small batches from the FISA member search facility on the FISA website. This facility was placed on the website to enable members of the public in need of the services of a fiduciary practitioner to find a member who can assist. In that sense it is a free advertisement for our members. To prevent abuse of this, the e-mail addresses of members on the website are not clickable (i.e. they are not live links).

FISA will monitor the situation and if this kind of abuse becomes more prevalent, we shall have to find a way to deal with it. For the moment, the best way for members to deal with this is to block the sender in the junk mail facility of your e-mail box.
