A valid will ensures your assets are distributed according to your wishes and can prevent family disputes, delays and unnecessary legal costs after death. Estate planning is broader than writing a will: it includes tax planning, protecting assets, providing for dependants and ensuring sufficient liquidity to cover estate expenses.
Phia also warns against appointing inexperienced executors or fiduciary providers without scrutiny. South Africans are urged to review their wills regularly and seek qualified, independent estate-planning advice.
