The acting Chief Master, Adv Kanyane Mathibe, issued Chief Master’s Directive 1/2025, dealing with the statutory advertising requirements in deceased estates.
Due to media companies discontinuing the publishing of newspapers in hard copy (print) and the fact that the Government Gazette is also sometimes published online only and not in print, questions arose about the validity of estate, insolvency and liquidation advertisements placed on online media platforms. The directive deals with this issue, states that the relevant legislation does not explicitly require publication in print, and sets out the process to be followed.
