In Citywire’s new Adviser portal, editor Eleanor Becker writes on special trusts. She spoke to Dr Eben Nel, Chairperson of FISA, who says that an inheritance by a major dependent who cannot manage his own assets or affairs should, for obvious reasons, be protected by placement in a trust and under the control of trustees to protect the heir against third parties.
He emphasises that advisers should familiarise themselves with the trust’s exact requirements before assisting a client.
