Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

George Bernard Shaw said the following: “Progress is impossible without change, and those who do not change their minds cannot change anything.”

All FISA members subscribed to the Code of Ethics and of Professional and Responsible Conduct as well as to the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme Charter when they joined FISA and when they renewed their membership.

Week 3: Areas of Expertise and Categories of CPD activities

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is most effective when tailored to your professional focus.

The FISA CPD Programme recognises that the fiduciary profession spans a wide range of specialised areas. While not all of these areas are currently represented as distinct categories under the FPSA designation, additional certification streams may emerge as the profession evolves. For now, several specific areas of expertise are listed, and an “Other” category has been included to accommodate additional specialisations within the industry.

Recognised Areas of Expertise:

  1. Law and Ethics in Fiduciary Services
  2. Wills Consulting and Drafting
  3. Deceased Estate Administration
  4. Estate Planning
  5. Trust Administration
  6. Beneficiary Fund Administration
  7. Liquidations, Sequestrations and Curatorships
  8. Other

Members are encouraged to ensure that their CPD activities align with the areas in which they hold certification or a professional designation. Your CPD efforts should therefore focus on the specific fields of expertise for which you have been formally recognised.

The following categories of CPD activities will be recognised. As indicated above, an ‘Other’ category has also been included to accommodate activities that do not fall within the defined categories.

Recognised Categories of CPD Activities:

  1. Authoring (articles, books, study material, case discussions, and abstracts in the relevant technical field.

In the past, FISA called on all members to write articles for the newsletter or the media.
