Text message scam claiming to be from FISA

A text message is circulating claiming to be a message from FISA, purportedly notifying the recipient about unclaimed funds. Click here for an image of the message.

This message does not originate from FISA and is clearly a scam. Note the following:

  1. FISA does not communicate via WhatsApp with members;
  2. No text message originating from FISA will require you to respond via the text message, but will give you email addresses to respond to;
  3. All email communication from FISA to members originate from an address ending with @fisa.net.za, or @fidsa.org.za;
  4. FISA will not ask you in a text message to share any personal or contact details;
  5. Unclaimed funds at the Guardian’s Fund are published in the Government Gazette and FISA plays no role in any communications about that;
  6. Please look out for spelling errors and poor syntax – FISA attempts to deliver all communications to members in a highly professional way;
  7. When in doubt about whether a communication is from FISA, enquire by using the “Contact us” facility on the FISA website at www.fisa.net.za.
