Citywire: Appointing an administrator for those with impaired capacity

Dr Eben Nel, National Chairperson of FISA, writes for Citywire Adviser about the appointment of an administrator which in terms of the Mental Health Care Act 17 of 2002 is available in cases of mentally ill persons or those with severe or profound intellectual disability.

No High Court application is required for the appointment of an administrator; this is therefore less costly than the appointment of a curator bonis (a court-appointed person who manages the assets and finances of someone who cannot do so for themselves, due to physical or mental incapacity).
