FISA Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson re-elected

The current FISA Chairperson, Ms Ronel Williams, and the current Vice-Chairperson, Dr Eben Nel, both came to the end of their initial two year terms in their respective positions at the 2017 Annual General Meeting (AGM). At the FISA Council meeting following the AGM, both were re-elected unopposed for a further one year term.

The FISA Constitution provides in clause 10 for the election of a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson. This election must take place at the Council meeting following directly after the AGM, where the newly constituted Council must elect a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson from amongst the members of Council. The clause provides further that both are elected for an initial two year term and both may stand for re-election for a further one year term at the conclusion of their first terms of two years. No person may serve as Chairperson or Vice-Chairperson respectively for a term of more than three consecutive years.

Both Ms Williams and Dr Nel will serve in their current positions until the 2018 AGM of FISA, after which the FISA Council will have to elect a new Chairperson and a new Vice-Chairperson.
